Peterson Room at MCL
The Peterson Room, located on Marion Carnegie Library’s bottom floor, is named for Mr. Guy “Pete” Peterson and Mrs. Yolonde B. Peterson.
Mr. Peterson served on the Marion Carnegie Libary Board of Trustees for many years, molding and guiding the library’s role in the community.
Mrs. Peterson was a lifelong supporter of the library and of the City of Marion. She is immortalized in a 2023 mural on the west side of the Marion Cultural and Civic Center.
In 2022, a generous contribution from the Guy “Pete” Peterson and Yolonde B. Peterson Trust funded the library’s microfilm reader, available to the public at no cost in the Peterson Room.
Please note: The Peterson Room is not available to be reserved. The room is publicly available when the library is open.
Equipment and Facilities
The Peterson Room is equipped with an overhead projection unit with a projection screen, a DVD player, a laptop, an external VGA port, an external HDMI port, and in-ceiling speakers.
The room also contains a table and seating for up to 12.
Please note: Food and drink are not allowed in the Peterson Room.

The Peterson Room is home to the library’s Local History Collection. Items in the local history collection are not available for borrowing.
In the room, you’ll also find a microfilm reader along with microfilm copies of census information, and a number of historic newspapers, including the Egyptian Press, Marion Leader, Marion Monitor, Marion Evening Post, and Marion Daily Republican.
